The Design and Execution of Performance Management Systems at State Level: A Comparative Analysis of Italy and Malaysia
2016
ABSTRACTThis comparative study analyses the experience of Italy and Malaysia in the design and execution of performance management systems at the state level. The article investigates how performance management systems have changed over the past decades, the motivations behind their metamorphoses, their common elements across the two countries, and what accounts for the respective progress. It also investigates the role that the institutional framework plays in making performance management systems robust. The study presents policy recommendations on how governments can create more robust performance management systems for enhanced accountability and transparency in an age of resource const…
Economic lot scheduling on multiple production lines with resource constraints
2003
Abstract This paper deals with the multiple production line economic lot scheduling problem, where some items cannot be produced concurrently since they compete for some discrete resources. In particular, cyclic schedules are sought for a problem where identical production lines are present, lost sales are allowed, and minimization of the long-range production, setup, inventory, and shortage penalty costs are required. A heuristic procedure for this problem is introduced, a numerical example is worked out and some computational experiments are presented.
Theoretical and Practical Fundamentals
2014
Project managers carry out a project with several objectives in mind. They want to finish the project as soon as possible, with the minimum cost, the maximum quality, etc. This chapter studies project scheduling problems when several goals are sought, that is, multi-objective project scheduling problems (MOPSPs) and multi-objective resource-constrained project scheduling problems (MORCPSPs). We will discuss some of the most important issues that have to be taken into account when dealing with these problems. We will also prove some useful results that can help researchers create algorithms for some of these problems.
Three-dimensional matching based resource provisioning for the design of low-latency heterogeneous IoT networks
2019
Internet-of-Things (IoT) is a networking architecture where promising, intelligent services are designed via leveraging information from multiple heterogeneous sources of data within the network. However, the availability of such information in a timely manner requires processing and communication of raw data collected from these sources. Therefore, the economic feasibility of IoT-enabled networks relies on the efficient allocation of both computational and communication resources within the network. Since fog computing and 5G cellular networks approach this problem independently, there is a need for joint resource-provisioning of both communication and computational resources in the networ…
Changes in the Scheduling Process According to Observed Activity-travel Flexibility
2014
Abstract In this work we analyze the reasons for changing pre-planned activities and travels episodes considering the type of modification observed during the scheduling process. Specifically we selected a small sample from those pre-planned episodes that are no executed at all as a pilot study. The data analyzed was collected in the first wave of a weekly activity-travel panel survey carried out in Valencia (Spain) in 2010. Each survey wave consisted on a face-to-face interview to generate a pre-planned activity agenda for the following week, an activity-travel diary implemented on mobile phones to collect activities and travels as they are executed, and in-depth telephone interviews to in…
